The Central Synagogue in Sydney, Australia, hosted a special event in honor of the business magnate and media owner Rupert Murdoch and his family for their longstanding defense of the Jewish community and the people of the Holy Land of Israel.
Murdoch, 93, was accompanied by his Jewish wife Elenahis son Lachlanand daughter-in-law Saraand received nothing less than a hero’s welcome.
Rabbi Levi Wolffthe shul’s spiritual leader, praised the Murdoch family for their moral integrity and their courage to stand up for what was right.
“They are a family of great influence, but even greater is their moral courage to be on the right side of history,” Rabbi Wolff said.
Murdoch mingled and spoke to a packed audience at the synagogue, receiving a standing ovation for his contributions over the years.
The event highlighted Murdoch’s extensive media legacy. As founder of News Corp, Murdoch built a global empire with leading publications such as The Wall Street Journal, The Sun and The Australian, as well as broadcast networks such as Fox News and Sky News Australia.
Because his platforms play a crucial role in shaping public debate on an international scale, his longstanding support for Israel was widely recognized at the meeting.
Rabbi Wolff said the pre-Hanukkah event celebrated not only Murdoch’s professional achievements, but also his commitment to moral values, making the occasion both a reflection of gratitude and a gesture of unity within Sydney’s Jewish community.
