Tom Holland reflects on how he found out he was cast as the MCU’s Peter Parker

When Sony Pictures decided to partner with Marvel Studios, The great Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield was out and the hunt was on for a new Peter Parker.

After an extensive search, the relatively unknown Tom Holland was tapped in 2016 to play the iconic superhero Captain America: Civil War. He would come back later Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Avengers: Infinite War, Avengers: EndgameAnd Spider-Man: No way home.

The following is for the Netherlands Spider Man 4 And Avengers: Doomsday. We’ll definitely be seeing more of him, and the actor reflected on being cast as a wall-crawler in a recent interview.

As you might imagine, it was a day that the Netherlands will never forget…

“I found out on Instagram. Marvel had posted a picture of Spider-Man and it said something like, ‘Go to our website to find out who the next Spider-Man is.’” he remembered. “Now, at this point, I’ve waited maybe six weeks to find out if I did it. And at that point, of course, you say, ‘I didn’t get it,’ because they would have called me. They would have had a little respect to have.”

“And I went to their website and it said, ‘We’re proud to announce that our next Spider-Man is Tom Holland’ and I remember putting my computer down and just kind of sitting there,” The Netherlands continued. “I called my agents. They heard the news. They didn’t even know. And then the president of the studio called me and told me the news like I didn’t know.”

When asked if Kevin Feige knew he already knew he would be the next Spider-Man, the actor joked: “You didn’t think an eighteen-year-old boy browsing the Internet wouldn’t find out, did you?”

As mentioned, we expect to see a lot more of Holland’s Spider-Man in the MCU in the coming years and it’s pretty amazing – no pun intended – to see how far he’s come since that Marvel.com story was published way back in 2015 posted (we’re sure those of you who have visited the site since will remember this).

In 2021, for which we spoke with the Netherlands Spider-Man: No way home and asked what he thought of filmmaker Joe Russo’s comments that his Peter had become the face and soul of the MCU:

“I mean, I wouldn’t necessarily say that I’m the face of the universe. I know that fans really support this franchise and have responded in droves. I’m honored that Joe thinks that, but the great thing about the MCU is whoever is the leader is, if there’s ever a leader again, you’re never alone. You have so many people that you can rely on and lean on and people that I’ve been working with for years and years now. I don’t necessarily feel that pressure, but I would I who have to feel pressure, then yes, I will Call Downey and ask him. I called him the other day for advice and he was very nice.
