NEW DELHI: West Bengal prime minister Mamata Banerjee the Border Security Force (BSF) of helping infiltrators enter India to destabilize the state.
At a public meeting, Banerjee accused the BSF of allowing access through several border areas under its jurisdiction such as Islampur, Sitai and Chopra.
She questioned the motives behind these actions and suggested they were part of a ‘blueprint’ orchestrated by the central government.
“The border is guarded by BSF, not TMC. They send criminals and murderers across the border. This is an inside job of the BSF, backed by a blueprint from the central government. Without such a plan, these activities would not be possible,” the Prime Minister said.
Banerjee warned that if such activities continued, her party would stage protests against the BSF.
“People are coming in through BSF Islampur, through Sitai, through Chopra, we have news. Why don’t you protest? The border is in the hands of the BSF. If anyone thinks they are invading Bengal and defaming the Trinamool, let them be warned that the Trinamool Congress doesn’t do these things. Do not abuse Trinamool by supporting BSF’s misdeeds,” Banerjee said, as reported by ANI.
Her comments come amid a growing political brawl border management and accusations of bias.
Banerjee also added that she had repeatedly raised her concerns with the central government but alleged that her warnings were ignored. She stated that while the TMC would abide by the decisions of the government, it would not hesitate to oppose actions that threaten the peace and stability of the state.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari earlier this week accused the West Bengal government of obstructing efforts to acquire land for construction of BSF outposts along the Bangladesh border. Adhikari alleged that the state government’s lack of cooperation with the Center and the Home Ministry was a hindrance national security.
“I have given details of how there is no cooperation (by the state government) with the Center and MHA… No joint meetings are being held, there is no coordination with central government agencies and the police have released all 1,500 arrested trespassers. last year by BSF and this year by 1,000,” Adhikari claimed. He further accused the state of withholding land for 17 proposed BSF outposts and using the meeting to pass resolutions against the BSF.
Adhikari’s accusations extended to the state’s handling of transnational crime. He claimed that many criminals operating across the border are allegedly protected by the ruling party. “Politics must be stopped in the interest of the country and the Bengali community,” he said, urging the state to prioritize cooperation with the central government.
