The pair fought for a place in the semi-finals one step closer to the Sid Waddell trophybut it could be forgiven if the couple were in a jovial mood.

And the tungsten magic started at a seriously impressive pace as Littler took an early 2-0 lead.

But Aspinall forced a comeback and followed his enemy, step by step, for a day.

In the second leg of the fourth set, the pair started incredibly fast, as they both hit 180s in their first three darts.

Naturally, the crowd was eager for the perfect leg to land, and the atmosphere at the iconic location soared.

Aspinall was the first to step up for his second three darts and set up the first treble, which was greeted with huge cheers.

But when he went to throw his next dart, he visibly burst out laughing, clearly shocked by the leg that unfolded.

He stepped away from the oche, stopped the match and shared a giggle with his friend and opponent on stage.

Unfortunately, it halted his progress towards this remarkable achievement when he missed the treble before hitting treble one.

He flicked his wrist as if to indicate that his arrows were not what he wanted, and the crowd comically booed.

But the popular couple really put on a show and fans loved it.

One wrote: “Luke Littler and Nathan Aspinall both on nine darters in a World Cup quarter final and the Asp is just laughing haha.”

Another complimented: “Big fan of Luke the Nuke, but what a great sportsman and nice guy Nathan Aspinall is.

One fan agreed: “That was a great moment from Aspinall. There is so much fun in these players.”

While one continued: “These guys make it so interesting.”

Littler added another three perfect darts that reached the final throw.

But unfortunately he missed the first treble 20, which drew further boos from the crowd before applause.

It’s not the first time they’ve gotten heavily involved in the match either, as Aspinall previously asked the crowd if they wanted a maximum of 180.

‘The Asp’ had a score of 181 and would have destroyed his score if he had agreed, but he opted for a single song that drew loud cheers.

Once again he saw the funny side and it was one of many during the match, which was played in good humor.

It was Littler who was the eventual winner, recording a 5–2 win over his friend Aspinall to book a place in the semi-finals.

He is now two games away from lifting the Sid Waddell trophy with his route to the business side confirmed.
