Woolwich: Fire that resulted in two rescues ’caused by electric bike battery’

The cause of the house fire, which saved two people, may have been lithium batteries in a converted electric bicycle.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) added that firefighters used a ladder to help adults escape from a property on Sandy Hill Road, Woolwich, on Saturday morning.

Several other adults and a child were taken to hospital where they suffered smoke inhalation.

The LFB has issued another warning on the dangers of converted electric bikes, adding that it has been involved in more than 130 fires this year involving an electric bike or electric scooter.
