Broken Bow woman sentenced to prison for child abuse

IDABEL, Okla. (KXII) – A Broken Bow woman was sentenced to four years in prison on one count of child abuse.

According to federal prosecutors, 35-year-old Kaira Wilson was found guilty by a federal jury at trial in January 2024.

Investigators said police responded to a 911 call at an Idabel home in March 2020 and discovered an unconscious 6-month-old baby.

EMS responders began lifesaving measures and rushed the child to the hospital. Medical professionals were able to resuscitate and stabilize the child, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

The child suffered injuries consistent with non-accidental trauma, including a subdural hematoma, extensive retinal hemorrhages, and loss of vision in one eye.

Prosecutors said an investigation revealed that prior to the 911 call, a witness at the home saw Wilson throw the child against a wall.

Wilson is not eligible for parole.
