Penang police arrest Malaysian with 37 criminals and drug records suspected in Tasek Gelugor robbery

BUTTERWORTH, Nov 10 – Police have arrested a local man suspected of being involved in the robbery of a Pakistani national at a supermarket in Tasek Gelugor on Nov 4.

Seberang Perai Utara district police chief ACP Anuar Abdul Rahman said the 30-year-old suspect was detained in the Tasek Gelugor area yesterday.

“Police also successfully seized stolen items from the supermarket, as well as stolen motorcycle parts and drugs in his possession,” he said in a statement last night.

He added that checks revealed that the suspect had 30 criminal records and had committed seven drug-related offences, and that he was also wanted for breaching police supervision conditions in Langgar, near Alor Setar, Kedah.

The suspect has now, as of yesterday, been remanded in custody for six days for further investigation under section 379A of the Criminal Code and section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Anuar also appealed to the public to come forward with any information relating to the case and contact the investigating officer, Inspector Muhamad Ikram Zulkifli, on 04-576 2222 (ext. 2275), or any nearby police station to investigate support research.

Last Tuesday, a video of the supermarket robbery, in which a machete was used, went viral and following the incident, police said they were looking for a man to assist in the investigation. – Bernama
