Grand totals and records broken in Southern Colorado

This month is more like ‘Snow November’ than November. Looking back on last week’s winter storm, several records have been broken. We saw a wide range of snow totals, from 54.1 inches in San Isabel to just a trace in some places.

Some of the records we saw broken were the daily records from November 5, 7 and 8 in Colorado Springs. Pueblo saw that daily record broken on November 5. If we compare this month to recent years, we have already had the third snowiest November on record. If we get another impactful storm system, we could be on track to break all-time snowfall totals for November.

Looking ahead to next week, we see a higher level trough that could bring some more snow to Southern Colorado. The models show snow in the forecast, but not as impactful as this latest system. The computer models can change drastically from day to day and so we are still unsure if we will even get snow.

The current snowpack is well above average for this time of year, and November is generally a dry month in terms of precipitation. When we look at the snow percentages in the state, 100% is consistent with the average amount of snowfall we get. As you can see, most of Colorado’s snowpack is well above average, with some percentages nearly tripling. We only average 4.4 inches for the entire month for Colorado Springs. Pueblo averages only 4.1 inches of snow for the entire month. The final total for Colorado Springs was 19.3″, which was recorded at the Colorado Springs Airport. In Pueblo they had a final total of 11.1″.
