Featuring longtime Carolina Panthers linebacker Shaq Thompson probably on the way out of Carolina, the Panthers need to find another defenseman with strengths like Thompson. Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton could be the guy the Panthers need.
Although Bolton has had his fair share of injuries, the 24-year-old is a key playmaker for the Chiefs. Bolton suffered a sprained ankle and dislocated wrist in the 2023 season, causing him to miss a total of seven games. However, he came back for the Chiefs’ playoff run and was unstoppable. The linebacker had 13 tackles in Super Bowl 58, which was a game-high.
Bolton is crucial in stopping the run game, but can also impact the passing game. He has natural playmaking ability and provides valuable cover when defending. The Panthers need to find a suitable replacement for Thompson, who has made an impact on the defensive side of the ball.
According to Pro Football Network’s Dallas Robinson: Bolton could be the answer for the Panthers.
“The Panthers’ most pressing concern for 2025 will be finding a long-term quarterback. But Carolina also has questions about the defense, where the old linebacker Shaq Thompson headed to free agency (or could possibly retire).”
In the 2024 season, Bolton has made a total of 69 tackles, 47 of which were solo tackles. He also recorded one sack. The Chiefs face the Panthers next weekend, which will be an interesting matchup and a chance for Bolton to impress the Panthers coaching staff.
