A broken down train is causing major disruption to train passengers between Inverness and the central belt this morning.

ScotRail and LNER services between Edinburgh and Inverness and Glasgow and Inverness are being cancelled, with the operator having already announced that the Inverness to Glasgow Queen Street train at 8:41am will not run.

The train developed a fault at Dalwhinnie station, with the incident reported at 8:19 am. Disruption is expected until at least 10:30 am.

There is no replacement rail transport yet. A ScotRail spokeswoman said: “We have a broken down train in Dalwhinnie and it is unfortunately causing disruption to services through this area.

“Technicians are currently troubleshooting the driver to see if we can get him on the road.

“Unfortunately, we are having some trouble finding replacement buses. We’re still trying, but until we can get some sorted out, we recommend you make your own arrangements.”

Customers are advised to use the station help points or contact an employee for more information.

ScotRail has entered into a ticket acceptance agreement with Scottish Citylink buses between Inverness and Perth.

Passengers must show their valid ticket or Smartcard to the driver when boarding the bus.
