Greedy People movie review: On the one hand, we have the oh-so-colorful Wicked on the screens this weekend. On the other hand, Joseph Gordon-Levitt will paint the screen blood red with Greedy People! Released by Lionsgate, the film has a rather twisted idea of crime comedy that will instantly get you hooked.

Joseph shares the screen with Himesh Patel, Lily James, Simon Rex, Tim Blake Nelson, Joey Lauren Adams, Uzo Aduba and Jim Gaffigan. Even though the movie is only an hour and 52 minutes, Greedy People is such a good watch!

What are greedy people all about?

Police officer Will Shelley (Himesh Patel) and his wife Paige (Lily James) move to a small, boring town in the US. As they prepare to start their new lives, Will is assigned a rather eccentric partner in the form of Officer Terry Brogan (Joseph Gordon-Levitt). His unruly habits are unknown to the locals, and his mustache look paints a worse picture of him. When they are acquitted, Will discovers that Terry is involved with a married Chinese woman. During one of their rounds, Terry makes a quick visit to his lover’s house. While Terry is busy, Will receives an SOS call about a burglary at one of the houses in town.

He leaves Terry behind and heads to the crime scene. One thing leads to another: Will accidentally kills the resident who made the SOS call. The case suddenly gets a lot of attention because she is the wife of the city’s acclaimed businessman. As Terry helps Will cover up the murder, the plot becomes bloodier and bloodier. As Greedy People progresses, viewers learn several secrets, witness betrayals and deaths, and also meet two bizarre assassins.

What works for greedy people?

Several elements in Greedy People work in the film’s favor. Immediately the casting of Joseph Gordon-Levitt would take place. The man is a chameleon and Greedy People is proof that he can play any role given to him. He is the star of the film and delivers some of the best scenes even when Himesh and Lily fall short. Speaking of the duo, Lily leaves an impression with her performance, especially in the climax portion. However, Himesh was not that impressive. The supporting cast also carries the film well. However, Nina Arianda stood out among them all.

Greedy People also does not shy away from going into depth when it comes to brutality. The film has several moments that catch you off guard, leaving you wondering what could happen next. The comedy is bang on too!

What doesn’t work for greedy people?

The film’s screenplay seems unevenly written. Director Potsy Ponciroli builds up each twist well, but when the climax is reached, the pace slows down. The uneven momentum is clearly visible and makes you lose focus.

Another problem with the film was Officer Terry’s background. While the history of Will and the other characters was well established, Terry’s history needed a bit more writing to truly appreciate or loathe his behavior in the film.

Check out Greedy People for Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
