COLORADO SPRINGS – During a hearing Friday morning, Jon and Carie Hallford pleaded guilty to their state indictment of more than 190 charges.

The couple is accused of abuse of a corpse, forgery, theft and money laundering after 190 decomposed bodies were found in their funeral home in October 2023 without proper refrigeration.

During Friday’s hearing, Jon Hallford entered a guilty plea to 191 counts of abuse of a corpse. The Honorable Eric Bentley presided over today’s settlement and accepted the plea, but he awaits judgment on his plea agreement for a later date.

During Friday’s hearing, Carie Hallford entered a guilty plea to 191 counts of abuse of a corpse. The judge accepted the plea, but also reserved judgment on her plea deal for a later date.

After Carie’s plea, Carie’s lawyers asked for her bail to continue until the next hearing, but the judge ultimately decided to revoke her bail. The judge stated that the bail was revoked because Carie had entered a guilty plea, meaning she is no longer entitled to bail.

Jon was released back into federal custody following the hearing.

Sentencing will take place at a hearing on April 18 at 9 a.m. Here we expect to hear impact statements from victims and more.
