WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Update: Wichita police said officers shot an armed man Friday evening who had shot at several people and injured at least one person and a dog.
The chain of events that led to an encounter with police just south of 13th and Broadway began just before 9 p.m. Friday with reports that a man had assaulted another person at an area home. According to police, the man started shooting after leaving the home.
Near 12th and Broadway, police say the man pointed a gun at officers and two officers shot at the man, wounding him. The injured suspect was taken to a Wichita hospital in critical condition.
The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
An investigation is also underway after another man was found dead in a nearby park late Friday night. Police said the man found in the park had been shot. Early on Saturday morning it is not yet known whether there is a link between the suspect injured by the police and the man’s death.

A Sedgwick County supervisor confirmed the injured person was in critical condition at the scene.
12 News noted a heavy police response, including an area cordoned off and patrol vehicles with their lights flashing.
