Originally, on August 12, the Far East Transport Prosecutor’s Office reported the “disappearance of a group of people traveling on a small ship.”
Russian authorities said the tragedy began three days earlier when the survivor, a 46-year-old, went on a whale-watching expedition with his brother and a 15-year-old from Cape Perovsky, a remote coastal town in Russia’s Far East. nephew.

Their journey was interrupted after they lost contact with authorities as they headed north to Ocha. Authorities said a search and rescue operation was later launched.
According to authorities, despite extensive efforts, there was no trace of them until Monday near the village of Ust-Khairyuzovo, about 1,000 km north of their original starting point.
Footage released by the Far East Transport Prosecutor’s Office shows the survivor waving to the boat before being taken to a local hospital for treatment.
