Tons of scrap burned at a recycling plant in Gravesend

Five fire engines battled flames after 100 tonnes of scrap metal caught fire.

Residents near the Gravesend recycling site were advised to keep their windows and doors closed as crews struggled to contain the blaze, which broke out just after midnight.

It took almost four hours to bring the flames under control.

No injuries were reported.

The cause is unknown.
