2 City Power contractors died after getting stuck in a sewer manhole, 3 were rescued

JOHANNESBURG – Two contract workers for the city’s electricity company have died after being trapped in a drain in the Johannesburg CBD.

Three other workers were rescued and taken to hospital.

It is known that five contractors were responding to a cable theft case that occurred recently.

The City of Joburg Emergency Management Services rescued three workers.

City Power officials say the cause of their deaths and why the workers were trapped remain unclear as the investigation into the fatal accident continues.
