Flooding affects five regencies of Central Kalimantan – Archipelago

a series of floods have swept through areas of Central Kalimantan and affected more than 88,000 people since Wednesday, including hundreds who fled their homes in the five regencies of Murung Raya, Pulang Pisau, North Barito, Kapuas and South Barito.

According to the Kalimantan Central Disaster Mitigation and Firefighting Agency (BPBPK), the flood affected a total of 122 villages in 20 districts, inundating 383 public facilities and 20,700 residential buildings, while 323 residents were evacuated from their homes, mainly in Murung Raya.

“Murung Raya remains the most affected as floods continue for eight days, affecting seven districts and 50 villages,” BPBPK Central Kalimantan chief Ahmad Toyib said on Wednesday, as quoted by Kompas.com.

The agency said more than 1,000 residents were affected in each flooded regency district, with the worst flooding recorded in Murung district, leaving 16,876 people dead and 4,248 homes flooded.
