GDF soldiers rescued after truck submerged in Essequibo River

A Guyana Defense Force (GDF) CONVOY carrying troops from Region Nine (Upper Takutu/Upper Essequibo) to Georgetown at approximately 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday encountered an incident at Kurupukari along the Essequibo River. One of the trucks in the convoy submerged in the river, immediately raising concerns for the safety of personnel on board.

Fortunately, all soldiers managed to get out of the sunken vehicle safely, and two people required further medical attention. They were medically evacuated to Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where they are currently receiving care.
The submerged truck has since been recovered and the GDF deployed a response team to the scene to provide support and conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident.

In a statement, the GDF expressed its sincere gratitude to all those who provided immediate assistance during this unfortunate incident, underlining the armed forces’ commitment to the safety and well-being of all its ranks.
