I wasn’t at my best, take full responsibility for the 3-0 sweep: Rohit Sharma

India captain Rohit Sharma said he took full responsibility for the humiliating 3-0 home Test series loss against New Zealand. Speaking to the press in Mumbai on Sunday, a deflated Rohit said he was not at his best, both as a captain and as a batsman.

India lost a home Test series by more than two matches 3-0 for the first time in the history of the sport. India were unbeaten in 18 Test series on the trot since early 2013, but the streak came to a shuddering halt against a visiting New Zealand side, who were by no means favorites when they landed in India without a doubt in October. their best hitter Kane Williamson.

After being beaten at pace in Bengaluru, India failed the spin test in Pune and Mumbai, failing to perform with the bat in any of the three Tests.

“It’s quite tough. It tells you that nothing is easy in life. One day you’re on a high and the next day you’re not. That’s something I learned at a very young age,” said Rohit Sharma.

“That’s something I use to make sure I don’t get carried away with the results. Life isn’t about highs, it has lows too.

“Something like that will be a very low point in my career, because I lost three games at home. And I take full responsibility for that. As a captain and also as a leader, I haven’t been at my best, right.” from the beginning of the series And with the bat I haven’t been good enough,” Rohit added.

WE HAVE FAILED AS A UNIT: ROHIT

Rohit Sharma also admitted to making tactical mistakes, highlighting the decision to bat first on an overcast morning on the first day of the series in Bengaluru, and admitted that some of these mistakes may have made the 3-0 influenced score.

“You have to be proactive, for the last three to four years we have played on pitches like that. This was an unfortunate run where we tried some things that didn’t work out. I was not at my best as a captain in leading the team as well as with the bat. As a unit we have failed to deliver,” he added.

India paid the price for not spending enough time in the middle against spin. There were many collapses in all six innings of the Test series and Rohit said the senior pros had to learn a lot from the likes of Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant, who could find ways to counter the spin threat.

India will look to put the disappointment of the whitewash at home behind them and look forward to doing well in Australia. The five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy will start from November
