Two people arrested after a three-vehicle crash left a woman with serious injuries

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Metro Nashville Police are investigating after a woman driving three vehicles suffered life-threatening injuries.

According to police, the crash happened Sunday morning on Interstate 24 near the Bell Road exit.

Police have issued arrest warrants for 45-year-old Yimer Veleno for reckless aggravated assault, vehicular assault, open container violation and no insurance.

Veleno’s front-seat passenger, whose name has not been confirmed, was not wearing a seat belt and suffered life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Police said Veleno and the driver of a white van were driving aggressively just after 2 a.m. and tried to run each other off the road.

As the two vehicles approached the Bell Road exit, the Honda struck the rear of the van and the side of a Mazda SUV.

Police said the van sped away when Veleno and the driver of the Mazda stopped on the off-ramp.

Police said the driver of the Mazda, 25-year-old Nilubon Wiphawachart, was impaired while driving and was arrested for driving under the influence.

“Officers are asking for the community’s help in locating the van. There is damage to the rear, including broken rear windows,” police said. “Anyone with information about it and/or the driver is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.”
