Miami vs. Georgia Tech Predictions, Picks and Best Bets: Offenses Tell the Story

The Miami Hurricanes may be 9-0 and possess the highest scoring offense in the country, but a trip to Atlanta will require their full attention. Georgia Tech can score points and the Hurricanes defense hasn’t been particularly convincing lately.

The Miami Hurricanes will look to remain undefeated and in prime position to make the College Football Playoff when they visit the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Saturday afternoon.

The Hurricanes have scored at will this season – and given up a lot of points too – and that’s why I’m taking the Over in my Miami vs. Georgia Tech Predictions.

Keep reading to see why I think the offense will win the day in my college football choices for Saturday, November 9, with kickoff at noon on ESPN.

My analysis
Although it may be difficult to get a handle on how legitimate a national title contender is Hurricanes in Miami are real, there are no doubts about the power of their transgression. Cam Ward and company are breaking down defenses and scoring 47.4 ppg while averaging 556.9 yards per game and 7.7 yards per play, all tops in the country. No team has held the Hurricanes under 36 points yet this season.

Georgia Tech won’t be the team to break this streak. While the Yellow Jackets have been solid enough against the run, opponents are completing 63.4% of their passes against them, for a total of 7.2 yards per pass attempt. With Ward completing 67.1% of his throws and posting a stellar 175.1 passer rating this year, it’s going to be a long day for Georgia Tech’s secondary.

That may all sound like a reason to take Miami on Saturday, but we have to look at the other side of the ball as well. That’s where the Hurricanes have struggled. While they have only allowed a reasonable 22.6 ppg this season, that number is misleading as Miami has held its first four opponents to an average of just 10.3 points. Since then, four of the last five opponents have scored at least 31 points.

Can Georgia Tech join that club? The Yellow Jackets have had some success against weaker defensive teams, recently scoring 41 points against the North Carolina Tar Heels. They’ve struggled to score over the past two weeks, but those efforts have come against better defense in the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Virginia Tech Hokies.

Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King may return for this game, which would add a reliable — if not explosive — dual-threat weapon to an offense that has struggled without him the past two weeks. King’s status has me wary of how well the Yellow Jackets will do overall against Miami, making this a shootout.

But even the defensive-minded Georgia Tech team has exceeded that total twice in the last six weeks, while the Hurricanes do so on a regular basis. Since Miami’s offense is unlikely to encounter too much resistance, the Over is my clear choice.

Miami vs. Georgia Tech same-game parlay (SGP)

BetMGM logo

More than 63.5

Miami -10.5

Xavier Restrepo anytime TD

Damien Martinez TD anytime

The Miami offense should dominate this game, and that is the focus of my same-game parlay. Not only am I taking the Over, but I’m also taking Miami to cover the 10.5 point spread. Georgia Tech has lost each of its last two games by at least 15 points, and the Hurricanes have far more opportunities to run up the score than the Yellow Jackets’ recent opponents.

I’m also taking two standout Hurricanes to score touchdowns in this game. Running back Damien Martinez has eight touchdowns on the year, while receiver Xavier Restrepo has found the end zone nine times, including three scores last week. With Miami scoring early and often in this game, both players should be able to get on the board Saturday.
