Isaiah Bond and Andrew Mukuba crucial to victory in Texas Longhorns Return

AUSTIN – Wide receiver Isaiah Bond and safety Andrew Mukuba were two parts of the Texas roster missing in the away match against Vanderbilt two weeks ago.

The two players started training well this week and showed a positive recovery in the matchup.

Mukuba, a senior transfer from Clemson, recorded six tackles, four assists and two solo, and one interception. Meanwhile, Bond, a junior transfer from the Alabama Crimson Tide, racked up three receptions for 55 yards and one touchdown.

“It definitely felt good to have that interception in my first game (back from injury),” Mukuba said.

Bond ranks second on the team in receiving yards and touchdowns with 435 yards and five touchdowns. Mukuba has three interceptions and 20 tackles in his first season as a Longhorn. Both players have proven to be key to Texas’ game.

“What Bond does, I think, is add the speed factor that we have on offense,” head coach Steve Sarkisian said. “He has elite speed.”

Bond and Mukuba had an extra week to prepare for today’s game as the Longhorns had a bye week between Vanderbilt and Florida. The extra preparation might have been the key.

Texas showing a complete team todayaccording to Sarkisian, more than any other game this season, dominating the Florida Gators for the 49–17 win. Much of that can be attributed to the explosive start of the Longhorn offense. Texas led 35-0 at halftime.

“Starting fast is an observation that can be applied anywhere in life,” Bond said. “Anytime you start something quickly, it helps the rest of things fall together fairly. Starting quickly also increases team morale and puts more smiles on faces. So starting quickly is certainly important.”

This dominance on both ends of the court should continue for the rest of the season as the Horns face rivals in tough conditions, including next week’s game at Arkansas. The Razorbacks may not be the strongest team in the SEC, but the crowd will be ready to give Texas a tough time.
