Six cartels arrested as NDLEA cracks down on cross-border drug trafficking

National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) operatives have successfully dismantled two major cross-border drug trafficking syndicates, arrested six cartel leaders and seized billions of drugs. Naira amount of cocaine and opioids.

The drugs were intercepted as part of an ongoing effort to curb the flow of illicit substances into Nigeria and Cameroon.

The drug syndicates, involving Nigerians from Mubi (Adamawa), Onitsha (Anambra), Lagosand associates from Cameroon, were suspected of supplying drugs to terrorist groups active in the region.

NDLEAIntelligence gathering and surveillance led to the arrest of key figures including Ibrahim Bawuro, Najib Ibrahim, Ibrahim Umar and others.

Cartels exposed through surveillance and intelligence

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi explained that the agency had been monitoring these syndicates for months, stating:

“The traffickers used sophisticated methods to transport drugs, including concealing them in false compartments of vehicles.

“Our officers were able to locate and arrest the suspects during a series of coordinated operations.”

Other arrests in Taraba, Anambra and others

Major arrests took place in Taraba, AnambraAnd Delta States, with Bawuro and Najib arrested on October 8 after leaving a vehicle with 276,500 pills of Tramadol, Vanguard reported.

Following these arrests, further operations led to the arrest of other cartel members.

Major cross-border interceptions and operations

On Tuesday, Nov. 5 NDLEA officers also arrested Adejumo Elijah Ishola at the Seme border, seizing, among other things, 3.3 kilos of cocaine.

Another major burglary occurred at the Apapa seaport, where more than 31 million opioid pills were discovered hidden in a container from India.

Other seizures include 700 grams of drugs at Murtala Muhammed International Airport and more than 100 kilos of hard drugs in several states.

The agency has also intensified activities against domestic drug trafficking, with significant drug seizures KwaraPlateau and Edo states, as well as the capital Abuja.

In another development Legit.ng reported that police in Edo State have done so confirmed the death of five and the arrest of one person in connection with food poisoning in Afashio-Uzairue in Etsako West Local Government Area.

The Public Relations Officer of Edo State Police (PPRO), Moses Yamu, a Superintendent of Police (SP), said the food poisoning occurred on October 26 and caused panic among residents.
