Even for the most avid fans, the depth of lore and mechanics in CRPGs is fun Pillars of Eternity can be difficult to follow, so for both new and old players: Granted will get its own glossary to help players navigate the most confusing concepts.
Scheduled for release in early 2025, Obsidian entertainmentThe upcoming RPG Avowed is set in the world of Eora, which was first established in the previous Pillars of Eternity series. Regional director Berto Ritger wants to make sure the game is as accessible to new players as it is to old fans and spoke in an interview at EGX about the steps being taken to achieve that.
With two Pillars of Eternity games confirming Eora’s deep lore, bombarding new players with information would likely drive people away rather than engage them, so the way Avowed is written is crucial to bringing in those newcomers . “Although it’s an existing IP address, we’ve made it as accessible as possible for people new to Pillars of Eternity.” Ritger starts. “Everything is written in such a way that it is written out quickly so that you understand the concepts that are at the heart of the world of Eora.”
Additionally, Ritger confirms that Avowed will include a glossary to help players delve deeper into the lore, or simply figure out or remember information about a particular concept – a feature found in other Obsidian games like Pentiment. “You can pause conversations at any time, see what people were saying, and then you can also look up terms that are highlighted in those conversations.”
While Avowed already is compared to Baldur’s Gate 3, Obsidian entertainment will likely be eager to follow the massive success of Larian Studios, and for Ritger it’s paramount to ensure that those of you new to the genre or franchise aren’t put off by the series’ depth. “We wanted to make it as accessible as possible.” he declares.
