IGP reiterates commitment to child-friendly policing practices – News – The Guardian Nigeria News – Nigeria and World News

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode EgbetokunMonday reiterated its commitment to implementing child-friendly police practices.

He gave the assurance during a conference and workshop program with the heads of all police investigative units at the Nigeria Police Resource Centre, Jabi, Abuja.

The workshop aimed to enhance the professionalism and standardization of criminal investigations and refine the investigative practice of every detective in the Nigerian Police Force, ensuring thorough and unbiased procedures and commitment to protecting the foundations of justice.

In attendance was a law professor, Professor Ayodele Atseluwa of the University of Lagos, who delivered a lecture on “The Child Justice System in Nigeria: An Overview.”

The IGP reiterated the force’s unwavering commitment to protect the rights and well-being of children by adhering to the highest legal and global ethical standards, especially the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The force remains committed to implementing child-friendly policing practices that are supportive, non-traumatic and rights-respecting, aimed at upholding the dignity and rights of children and young people while promoting a nurturing and protective environment.

In a bid to improve the operational framework for combating terrorism and other violent crimes in Nigeria, the Head of the Money Laundering and Counter Terrorism Financing Unit of the Nigerian Police Force, CP Hycenth Edozie, delivered a supplementary lecture aimed at on capacity building in the field of money laundering and terrorist financing.

The Nigerian Police Force is committed to refining investigative practices, adhering to high child protection standards and ongoing training, resulting in a stronger, more competent police force that will lead to the realization of a just and safe society.
