Advantages have registered Piet Doherty for their new single ‘Relentless’ as they announce new album ‘Constant Noise’ alongside a UK headline tour.
The Teeside duo’s second album will be released on March 21 via Invada Records and serves as a follow-up to the 2023 album ‘NAILS’. The tracklist includes their recent single ‘Land of the Tyrants’ and the new song ‘Relentless’, featuring Pete Doherty from The Libertines.
“The song is about the longing for a past that you had and that perhaps only exists in your memory. Longing for your lost youth, when everything seemed easier,” said frontman Kingsley Hall in a press release. “It was important to include Peter Doherty, not only because he is a legendary artist, but also because he was a hero to both of us when we started making music, in keeping with the theme of the song.
“Peter and the Libertines were an integral part of our musical education and love of music, like it or not he is a hugely important factor in why we do what we do. He is part of our past and we are honored and humbled that he has agreed to be part of our future.
Speaking about ‘Constant Noise’, Hall explained: “We felt there was no point in just repeating the first album. We’ve never been ones to simply toe the line, and besides, it’s been a tough few years – I forget how many times we’ve been praised and written off in equal measure. This bond is a struggle.”
“We’re still angry and ‘Constant Noise’ is an angry album,” Hall said, “just angry in a different way than before. There are plenty of bands that are more open and clear in their anger – just like our debut – and that’s fine, we just wanted to develop something further. We wanted to create something almost joyful in his disgust with the world. If the previous record was black and white, we technically wanted it to be colorful.”
“None of this sounds cheerful, but believe me, it is, we were aiming for a dark euphoria, and it was also a sensation to make. It is an album that we are all very proud of. We knew it would be a risk to go against the formula of our debut, especially since it was so well received by critics, but we never wanted this band to become predictable or stuck in a rut.
“We prefer to sit on the edge of not quite knowing what we are doing, because our discomfort stimulates creativity. Benefit was designed as a collaborative project and whether that means getting our buddy on stage to sing an anthem or asking Therapy’s drummer to play for us, that’s how it survives, and that’s how it will stay.”
