Report: NFL issues security alert on home burglaries

The NFL is reportedly sending a warning to teams and players about criminals targeting the homes of professional athletes.

The league sent a security alert Wednesday to team security directors and the NFLPA about concerns raised in the wake of the burglaries of Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Thursday.

Pelissero also reported that the FBI is investigating “the crime wave as international organized crime.” It is believed to be linked to a South American crime syndicate.

The story says that at least one other current NFLer’s home has been burglarized in the past week.

Mahomes and Kelce had their homes burglarized on consecutive days last month.

Police also say Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle and former Minnesota Viking Linval Joseph had a similar situation involving his Minnesota home last weekend.

Sources tell Pelissero that the criminals do not break into houses when the residents are inside and often commit the crimes during games.

Recommendations in the memo include not posting to social media in real time, installing security systems and keeping valuables out of sight.
