North Platte School is hosting a food drive to help underserved families

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – Little Leprechaun Preschool is once again hosting its annual Food Drive, inviting students and their families to contribute non-perishable food items to benefit the North Platte Catholic Food Pantry.

The campaign, which is part of the preschool’s ‘Giving Season’, aims to teach young children the importance of helping those in need, while making a tangible difference in their community.

For the past four years, Little Leprechaun Preschool has hosted the event as a way to demonstrate generosity, kindness and community service in their students. This year, the preschool hopes to collect a wide variety of food items, including canned goods, rice, pasta and more, to help support these families.

“We like to teach the kids that there is always someone less fortunate than you,” says Lisa Troshynski Para-Professional. “We like to teach them to give more to people who are less fortunate than them.”

Troshynski emphasized how difficult it is for young people to understand the challenges others face, but this experience helps them share the importance of giving with their parents.

“It’s hard for them sometimes to think that they have some friends who don’t have food and they’re going to come home, and they’re going to take it to their parents,” Troshynski said.

The nursery school has a special tradition during the Christmas period of collecting ‘baby gifts to Jesus’. These gifts will be donated to the North Platte Women’s Resource Center, which supports families with newborns and young children.
