CLEVELAND – Fortunately, Thursday night’s intense snowfall has stopped, but the effects are still there. The ground and roads are warm enough to melt the snow for the Friday morning commute, but bridges, lawns and your cars are still covered. Everything that is in the air, in the cold air, is covered with snow.
You can watch an update on Friday’s weather from News 5 Meteorologist Trent Magill and Reporter Mike Holden in the player below:
It will be wet and windy as we try to recover from our first winter cold
I’m tracking another wave of snow and rain for the morning ride, but it won’t be as intense as last night’s snow. I still expect delays, but accumulations should remain under an inch. The roads will become slippery and visibility will decrease. Make sure you’re prepared for another slow commute.

Although the land advisories have expired, there are concerns about Lake Erie. The National Weather Service has issued a gale warning for the lakeshore for this evening. The wind probably blows as much as 70 km per hour across the lake, creating waves as high as 2.5 meters, perhaps as high as 3 meters!
The impact of the wind on the land is twofold… Warmer but much wetter. By the afternoon the rain takes over. Wind gusts of 30 to 60 km per hour ensure that temperatures can thaw quickly. We’ll be back in the low 40s by midday, with highs in the mid 40s in the afternoon. We don’t wait for the sun to warm us. We would wait until Saturday afternoon or Sunday for that sun. That’s when we dehydrate and try to warm back up to more seasonal levels. Closer to 50 degrees.
