It’s free range, fed exclusively on nettles, wild blackberries and fresh oats, but the price of this turkey will make your eyes water: a whopping £363.

C Lidgate, a top class butcher from London, charges over £360 for their Woodland Bronze Turkey weighing between 12.5kg and 13kg.

The bird is fed a diet of wild blackberries, fresh nettles and freshly grown oats, which the butcher says results in ‘optimal taste and texture’ in the ‘slow-maturing’ birds.

“Because of their healthy outdoor life, they will not look like ordinary hybrid ‘factory’ or mass-produced birds,” said the butcher.

‘The free-range lifestyle results in stubble of black feathers, which shrink during cooking, leaving a skin known for its extra flavor and crispiness.’

They added that they “recognize the importance of good feed and welfare to make meat more nutritious and delicious.”

Their birds come from “exceptional” family farmers, she added, including King Charles’s Highgrove Estate.

While a bird costing more than €360 will be at the top of the butcher’s range, even a bird weighing 2.5 to 3kg will cost €81.
