Watford head coach Tom Cleverley was not angry with his players despite seeing his side drop two points in injury time of the match 2-2 draw at Plymouth on Friday.
It looked like the Hornets would take all three points from Home Park, which would have moved them up to fourth in the Championship, until ex-Watford striker Andre Gray equalized in the 96th minute.
“I can’t be mad at the players. It was everything we asked for. We asked for a real underdog mentality when we didn’t have the ball,” the former Manchester United midfielder told BBC Three Counties Radio.
“I thought the players were persistent, they were aggressive, they won duels, they won second balls.
“In possession we showed real class and composure but we just couldn’t get that third goal that you always need when you come here. They score a lot of late goals and that’s what undid us.
“Our leaky defense and our away form have been called into question this season and I honestly don’t understand why we haven’t taken three points.”
However, Cleverley admitted his team should have secured victory well before Gray’s late strike.
“It’s about looking at ourselves: we should have done more to be out of sight at 2-1.
“I feel like we had so many opportunities in transition that we just weren’t clinical enough.”
