TL; DR
- Android 15 QPR1 Beta 3.1 is available now, ahead of the public Pixel Drop.
- Google’s changelog reveals a number of minor bug fixes.
- Downloads are now available for Pixel 6 through Pixel 9 series devices.
If you want to stay on top of Android development, November couldn’t be a busier time for you. Android 16DP1 made its ridiculously early debut this week, and earlier this month we got our first beta version of Android 15QPR2. But that’s not the only Android 15 update floating around, and QPR1 went through the beta rounds before going official as the next Pixel Drop. It’s been about a month since we got our hands on Beta 3, and now Google is following that up with a small update.
We’re no strangers to Google releasing a number of minor releases to address ongoing beta issues, and that’s exactly what we’re seeing more of today, with Google’s announcing Android 15 QPR1 Beta 3.1. Here is the full changelog:
- Fixed an issue where tapping the media controls closed the notification panel but did not open the app. (Issue No. 375447625)
- Fixed an issue where long-pressing the device input icon would not work if there were many notifications and the notification shelf overlapped the lock icon. (Issue No. 369316295)
- Fixed an issue that prevented proper volume control for some Bluetooth devices. (Issue No. 376650439, Issue No. 373681731)
- Fixed an issue that caused Material You wallpaper-derived color options to appear very similar. (Issue No. 378507373)
- Fixed an issue that caused the scroll bar in system settings to have an inconsistent size and style. (Issue No. 366278155)
- Fixed an issue that sometimes caused NFC payments to fail. (Issue No. 363914347)
- Fixed an issue where translations in Indonesian and Hebrew were not displaying correctly for apps targeting Android 14 (API level 34) or lower. (Issue No. 378200084)
- Fixed several other issues affecting system stability, camera, connectivity, localization, accessibility, and interactivity.
As you can see, none of these are super phone-breaking, but they’re also the kind of little bugs you’ll want to clean up ahead of a wide, public release – we don’t want anyone trying to pay for their holiday shopping just to get an NFC payment to be refused, right?
One of these bug fixes addresses something we noticed last month Wallpaper based theme in Android 15 felt a bit limited, and we kept seeing the same four color palettes over and over. Google finally marked that bug report as ‘resolved’ on November 7 and posted that a fix would be coming soon – today we’re seeing the fruits of those efforts.
If you’re already in Google’s Pixel beta program and testing the previous Android 15 QPR1 builds, you’ll receive an OTA update to beta 3.1 (assuming you haven’t moved to QPR2 yet anyway). But if you’ve waited until pretty much your last possible chance to get involved, that’s fine too, and you can head over to Google’s Android developer site to get one factory image and get started. Like previous Android 15 test builds, it’s available for the Pixel 6 through the Pixel 9 series, as well as the Pixel Tablet and Fold.
