A 20-year-old died in a fatal shooting in the 700 block of West Galena Street on Friday around 6 p.m., Milwaukee police said.
The 21-year-old suspect was found at the same location with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and later died at a local hospital, according to police.
The victim, who suffered only one gunshot wound, was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is under investigation.
In a separate incident around 4:20 p.m., a 22-year-old was fatally shot as a result of a robbery. The shooting happened in the 4300 block of West Burleigh Street.
Milwaukee police said they are looking for “unknown suspects” in that incident.
To date, there have been 139 murders in Milwaukee, according to the Journal Sentinel databasethat is 66 fewer than at this time last year.
City leaders took notice in October The number of homicides and non-fatal shootings both dropped significantly by 202422% and 23% respectively. These categories are part of a citywide dip, with so-called Part 1 crime down 4% overall.
Overall, Part 1 crimes, as defined by the FBI as murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and auto theft, fell from 19,994 last year to 19,172 this year.
