The demonstration was organized by several groups, including students and farmers. Protesters held up banners, waved their phones with torches and set off fireworks as they filled the city’s Slavija Square.

The concrete canopy of the newly renovated roof of the station in the city of Novi Sad collapsed on November 1, killing 14 people and injuring three, with one person later dying from his injuries.

Opposition leaders and the public have repeatedly taken to the streets accusing the government of corruption and nepotism, saying this had led to poor construction.

The ruling coalition denies these allegations and President Aleksandar Vucic has said those responsible must be held accountable.
