First Night Boston rings in 2025 with live music, ice sculptures, fireworks and more

There will be no shortage of fun in Boston to ring in 2025 on Tuesday, with plenty of activities ahead children and adultslive music performances, two fireworks shows and ice sculptures that are more than art.

The sculptures will celebrate the 250th anniversary of Massachusetts, which was founded in 1775. The sculptures will depict historical moments leading to independence and will be on City Hall Plaza from Tuesday afternoon to 12:30 Wednesday afternoon, according to the First Night Boston 2025 website.

Weather permitting, some ice sculptures will remain on display until New Year’s Day.

Boston Harbor now has organized an ice sculpture walk to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Boston Harborwalk. The images can be viewed on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until sunset. A interactive map shows the location of each sculpture.

Food will be available from vendors at the Boston Public Market, City Hall Plaza and Boston Common.

The MBTA will stop collecting fares on Tuesday at 8 p.m. This means the T service will be free “for everyone who celebrates the holiday, so they can get home safely without any additional worries,” Mary Michelle Wu said Monday.

Train service will run for an hour until 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, and there will be an increase in subway service starting at 3 p.m. Tuesday, MBTA Transit Police Chief Kenneth Green said. On Tuesday, New Year’s Eve, all modes of transport operate according to a fixed weekly schedule.
