Vancouver’s Bench Accounting is being acquired by the California-based HR technology company

Bench Accounting announced the sudden closure on Friday, leaving hundreds of employees out of work and forcing clients to look for alternatives just days before the end of the year.

VANCOUVER – A California-based HR technology company says it will acquire a Vancouver-based accounting service that abruptly shut down operations last week.

Bench Accounting announced the sudden closure on Friday, leaving hundreds of employees out of work and forcing clients to look for alternatives just days before the end of the year.

Employer.com said in a statement that it has been working with Bench customers behind the scenes to ensure a seamless transition.

The company says customers will continue to work with the same in-house accountants and all their data will be intact, safe and protected.

Bench Accounting Chief People Officer Jennifer Bouyoukos says the company is pleased to have found a home for many of its customers and employees.

Employer.com CEO Jesse Tinsley says his company is excited to build on Bench’s legacy as a “trusted partner for small businesses.”

“While the challenges Bench recently faced were unexpected, we saw an extraordinary opportunity to integrate their capabilities into our own suite of solutions. By joining forces, we can create even more value for Bench’s loyal customers while expanding the reach and impact of Employer.com’s offering,” he said in the statement on Monday.
