Liverpool are having a fantastic season and Arne Slot has them on course for the Premier League title, but sources have stated that there is a big story looming in the background and there are major fears that one of their stars is on the verge of an exit .
Trent Alexander-Arnold out of contract and coveted by Real Madrid, the Spanish giants are confident he will sign for them in the summer. They tried for him in this window but there is no chance of a deal and a pre-contract agreement has always been the plan.
Liverpool has rejected an approach from Madrid in recent days to open talks on a move this month. Alexander-Arnold is also clear that he does not want to move mid-season.
However, sources are now reporting this Real Madrid are confident they will land the England international on a free transfer and he will join international team-mate Jude Bellingham. Liverpool’s approach in recent days also reflects the strength of Madrid’s position.
They must have sufficient confidence and evidence that a player deal is in the offing before formally approaching the club. This is the usual standard for a deal and Real have clearly received clear signals that the 26-year-old is keen to play at the Bernabeu.
Liverpool have not changed their position and a club source says they remain calm and will hold more talks over a new contract in the coming weeks. However, they are aware of the threat of Madrid and the lure of playing for the most glamorous side of the game.
There is no doubt that Anfield faces a huge battle to keep hold of the fans’ favorite and fans are now seriously concerned that they could lose him for nothing once the campaign is over.
