Douglas County authorities respond to an overnight armed carjacking

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Omaha Police and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to an armed carjacking Sunday night.

Around 12:13 a.m. Sunday, a report broadcast an armed carjacking around the area of ​​66th and Kansas Avenue, according to a news release.

At 12:18 p.m., a Douglas County deputy spotted the stolen car, a black Honda Pilot, and confirmed the license plate.

The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle fled. A pursuit was initiated.

At 153rd Avenue and Blondo Street, other officers successfully deployed stop sticks and stopped the car near 153rd Ave Circle and Hillsdale Drive, the release said.

Once arrested, the four male suspects fled from the car, after which three were immediately arrested. The fourth suspect is still on the run.

At the time of writing the release, no weapon had been located.

Two of the male suspects are 16 years old and the third is 14 years old. They were booked into the Douglas County Youth Detention Center for unlawful theft by receiving a stolen item over $5,000, and unlawful occupancy.

According to the statement, all three teens have been involved with the juvenile justice system in the past.

Due to the age of the suspects, their names and photos are not being released.

The Omaha Police Department is the agency investigating the original carjacking, so the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will refer comment from OPD on that investigation.
