One of the vehicles caught fire and was destroyed, while the second was also likely written off, the Deep Bay fire chief said.
Three people were taken to the hospital Saturday evening after a two-vehicle crash on Highway 19 near Bowser.
One of the vehicles in the crash, about a mile south of the Cook Creek Road intersection, burst into flames and was completely destroyed, but the driver of the SUV was able to escape the fire, said Deep Bay Chief George Lenz Volunteer Fire Department. .
He said the Dodge Ram pickup also involved is also likely “a complete write-off.”
BC Emergency Health Services said paramedics were called to the scene on the Inland Island Highway around 9:20 p.m.
Three ambulances arrived with primary care providers and one ambulance with advanced care providers. Paramedics provided emergency medical care to three patients who were transported to hospital.
The conditions of the three people involved in the crash were not immediately known.
Lenz said RCMP are investigating the crash. Debris was spread across the highway and the SUV that caught fire ended up in the center ditch.
The highway was initially closed in both directions, then in the northbound lanes with a detour via Horne Lake Road. It fully reopened just after 1am on Sunday.
