Motorcycle cop shares the dangers he faces on the road

Thursday’s tragedy involving three deputies in Palm Beach County is a reminder of how dangerous their jobs can be.

WPTV’s Tyler Hatfield spent Friday with Lt. David Rosko at the Martin County Sheriff’s Office to see what they face every day on the road.

“The prestige that comes with being able to ride a Harley Davidson and get paid for your work,” says Rosko. “You just can’t compare that to anything else in life.”

"We don't have airbags on a motorcycle. We have none of that to protect us if we...“We don’t have airbags on a motorcycle. We don’t have them to protect us if we get hit,” Lt. David Rosko said.

But Rosko also knows the dangers of his work.

“If you get hit in a car, you have walls all around you and airbags,” Rosko said. “We don’t have airbags on a motorcycle. We have nothing to protect us if we get hit.”

WPTV asked Rosko about Thursday’s tragic accident in Palm Beach County involving the three deputies.

“I don’t think any of those officers or deputies planned the day to go this way,” Rosko said. “It really makes you think about what’s going on in your life. And it’s just tough.”

He tells Hatfield that the biggest danger he faces on his motorcycle is drivers not paying attention.

“It’s very common for someone to make eye contact with me while driving down the road and still change lanes and end up in my lane,” Rosko said.

While yesterday’s tragedy remains with Rosko, it is his duty to serve that keeps him on the road.

“Yesterday’s events will not stop me from continuing to do what I do, to try to make what I can a better place,” Rosko said.
