The weather forecast for this week is: story of two modelsand forecasters say they can’t yet predict with any certainty how the weather will lead into Thanksgiving.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Mount Holly are predict the next possibility of rain for New Jersey will likely wait until Monday night into Tuesday, officials said in their Saturday morning forecast discussion.

The chance of rain increases through Tuesday, but dry and mild conditions are expected Wednesday as gusty winds increase and cooler temperatures persist through Thursday, forecasters said Saturday.

Forecasters could not yet say with certainty what things will look like on Thanksgiving and Black Friday. But they did say the possibility of rain and snow could occur in some parts of the state on Thursday and Friday.

If the storm stays south, areas along the coast can expect rain, while cooler temperatures in the state’s interior create the possibility of snow, forecasters said Saturday.

The possibility of snow depends on cooler air pushed down from Canada by the jet stream penetrating deep enough into New Jersey and creating cooler conditions mixed with precipitation, forecasters said.

Weather conditions leading up to Thanksgiving are an ongoing concern, given the expectation of large numbers of holiday travelers along major highways and at airports.

The Transportation Security Administration is expecting record volumes between Tuesday, Nov. 26 and Monday, Dec. 2, as they expect to screen 18.3 million travelers during the holiday week, a 6 percent increase over last year, agency officials said in a news release. earlier this week.

According to TSA, the highest numbers of travelers are expected on Tuesdays and Wednesdays leading up to Thanksgiving and on Sundays as people return home.

Winter weather on Thursday could complicate more local travel along New Jersey’s major highways, with the possibility of rain and snow in the forecast.

Gusty winds could also dampen plans for Thanksgiving parades in New York and Philadelphia, although it is too early to say how the weather will develop later in the week.
