Technology CEO dies in ‘tragic accident’ in Zion National Park

SPRINGDALE, Utah – A man is dead after an accidental fall in Zion National Park, according to the National Park Service.

The man was identified as Justin Bingham, 40, CEO of Opinion, a Utah technology software company, which confirmed the news of his death.

According to the NPS, Bingham was kayaking with three other people on the evening of Oct. 5 when he fell 50 to 200 feet near the exit of Heaps Canyon.

Bingham was pronounced dead before he could be airlifted to a hospital.

Authorities rescued the remaining kayakers the next morning, authorities said.

NPS and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office are still investigating Bingham’s cause of death.

“Justin was involved in a tragic accident while enjoying one of his greatest passions — exploring nature,” Opinion said in a statement. “Justin was a visionary who believed in the power of real relationships, both with our clients and within our team. His commitment to building meaningful relationships has had a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Justin’s spirit of adventure and dedication We will greatly miss living a full life.”

According to him, Opinia was Bingham’s third venture after selling two other startups posthumous.

Bingham is survived by his wife of 19 years, Lindsay, and four children.

In addition to his business ventures, Bingham was a “skilled and extremely talented outdoorsman” and “felt at home in places most human eyes will never see.”

“His personality was literally larger than life, filling the room with light, energy and love,” his obituary read. “Justin never met a stranger and wherever he went, he made lifelong friends.”
