Two hikers were rescued from the McCormick Wilderness area in Michigamme Township

MARQUETTE COUNTY, Mich. (WLUC) – The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) rescued two hikers from the McCormick Wilderness area in Michigamme County on Saturday.

In a Monday morning news release, MCSO said it and Marquette County Search and Rescue responded to the McCormick Wilderness area around 7:10 p.m. Saturday. Two hikers hiking the North Country Trail were late getting back. The last known location of the two hikers was south of Lake Raymond in the McCormick Wilderness area.

Search teams hiked the North Country Trail and searched surrounding roads in the area.

Search and Rescue members and K-9 Trace located both hikers at 2:40 a.m. Sunday, several miles from their last location. MCSO said both hikers were very cold and wet but refused medical treatment. Rescuers carried them out of the forest.

MCSO would like to remind anyone venturing outdoors to be safe and prepared.
