Like most people my age (older millennials), I’m always looking for ways to do that make healthier choices. Unfortunately, I can only devote so much time, money, and brain space to finding and implementing these healthy habits. I find myself drifting the most when it comes to getting all the nutrients I need on a daily basis, especially when I have an aversion to bland food and love sweet treats. In my quest to at least take the guesswork out of my mornings, I discovered Good proteins and its line of protein shakes. Good protein shakes promise 21 grams of protein and seven grams of fiber per serving – all delivered in a deliciously creamy shake. I’ve been making a Good Protein shake every day for over a week and I have some thoughts.

The details
Good proteins is a Canadian company that makes all-in-one protein shakes with 100 percent natural, plant-based ingredients. They offer a lot of different flavors from vegN protein shakes, super juices and boosters. Their shakes contain 21 grams of protein and seven grams of fiber and contain 20 fruits and vegetables per serving, while promising a creamy dessert-like taste. Good Protein has more than 19,000 five-star reviews on its site, with customers calling the shakes both satisfying and delicious.
Do they taste good?
I tried the Good Protein shakes in the Bananas & Cream And Strawberries & Cream flavors. Combining the protein powder with water didn’t blow me away; However, replacing the water with milk significantly improved the taste and texture. That said, my favorite way to consume the protein power was by mixing it with frozen fruit – it elevated the shake from tasty to absolutely delicious (and it’s an incredibly easy breakfast option).

Good Protein does not call its shakes a meal replacement; But when I drank one thing, I stayed full and satisfied until noon, especially with the addition of frozen fruit. I have a very sensitive stomach and I am happy to report that I have had no stomach problems with Good Protein.
What I like about it
If you’re tired of eating the same thing every day, the variety of these shakes is great. I can switch between shake flavors and keep my palette from getting tired.
I drank a Good Protein shake for breakfast for over a week and then didn’t think about lunch for at least four hours.
Mixed with water or milk, these shakes taste good, but they become even tastier with the addition of frozen fruit. Good Protein Shakes are more flavorful than any other protein powder I’ve tried, and they’re gentler on my stomach.
Each bag of protein powder comes with a measuring spoon in which it is portioned for you. Whether you mix it with water or milk or add it to a smoothie, it’s quick and easy.

What I don’t like about it
Good Protein says the shakes “taste just like your favorite desserts.” While they taste good, they don’t completely trick my brain or my tongue into thinking I’m eating dessert.
To sweeten their shakes, Good Protein uses Reb-M, an organic compound found in the stevia leaf that they claim is a low-calorie sweetener that tastes just like real sugar. It’s unclear if that causes the unpleasant aftertaste, but I found that it can be easily masked by adding some real fruit to the shake.

What reviewers say
4.78 stars
19,000+ reviews
Of thousands of five-star reviewsI’m far from the only fan of Good Protein. One reviewer was “actually shocked at how much (they) like” the protein supplement. Another described it as “creamy and delicious.”
“This is the creamiest, smoothest protein powder I’ve tried!” they wrote. It is also dairy and gluten free. It has a “delicious taste.”
Reviewers found Good Protein “versatile” and claim it works well in overnight oats and even ice cream. “(I) use it in my coffee every day,” said one customer.
“The taste is excellent,” wrote another. “I’m addicted!”
While most customers raved about their Good Protein shakes, some said the “flavors were too sweet and tasted artificial” and noted an “aftertaste that lingers long after the drink has been consumed.”
The verdict
In my younger years, I often turned to meal replacement shakes in an attempt to lose weight or suppress cravings without ever thinking about the nutritional value. Which, on the other hand, I have come to love Good proteins is the focus on the high-quality ingredients and nutritional benefits – while they actually taste good. I wake up looking forward to making a shake and I love that it gives my body what it needs.
While the shakes don’t mimic the taste of a real dessert as well as the brand promises, the addition of a frozen banana or other fruit takes these shakes to another level and helps eliminate an unpleasant aftertaste.
