It has been a difficult season 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days. Season 7 was already here struggles with a largely unlikeable castbut at least most of their storylines made up for the initial bad feelings. That said, one couple has remained unbearable, and their storyline thus far only makes them seem even more irredeemable. All of Netherton And Sunny Mahdi I boast the worst couple dynamic yet, and I only get angrier the longer I watch their story.
Almost everyone in Veah’s life told her that she had secretly taken her ex away Rory going to South Africa was a bad idea, including Rory himself. She decided to do it anyway for whatever reason, and we finally saw the consequences after Sunny saw a photo of them together on the plane. Now that the dust has cleared, I have to address the fact that I can’t stomach this storyline, even compared to other disappointments this season.
Veah missed the point of why Sunny was upset about Rory’s arrival
Sunny almost walked away completely after discovering Rory had arrived in South Africa with Veah, and if he had done this, this might have become my favorite storyline of the season. There was no reason for her to devise that plan in secret, which became clear the moment she tried to explain her actions to him. If she had just explained that she wanted a reliable travel partner, it might not have been so bad.
It also seems like Sunny was completely in the dark about many details of Rory and Veah’s friendship, including the fact that they fathered a child together, after which Veah suffered a miscarriage. Sunny felt hurt because he wasn’t told about it beforehand, and I understand because they are considering living together. Why can’t he know everything about her ex-boyfriend turned best friend?
Similar to Niles Valentine And Matilda Nti‘s marital situationthis is all something that should have been resolved well before she got on the plane. I don’t understand how this one 90 Day Fiancé couples can be like that with their family members in advance about the most intimate parts of their relationships, but have this annoying problem that you can’t have basic conversations with their foreign boyfriend/girlfriend.
I have a theory about Veah’s real reason for lying about Rory, and if so, that would be a red flag
Before this episode, we knew Veah had friends who told her that taking Rory to South Africa was a terrible idea, and even she knew there was a good chance Sunny would freak out. Despite all that, she still took him on the plane instead of talking to Sunny about it beforehand, and even posted a photo before she left.
My theory is that she was motivated to share that photo early on, and was probably hoping Sunny would see the post and have time to cool off without any sort of confrontation.
I also believe Veah didn’t discuss Rory going with Sunny because she specifically wanted to go with her ex and didn’t want to be faced with the obvious solution of finding someone else to fly with internationally. I’m not even entirely sure why she was afraid to fly into the country alone, since Sunny met her directly at the airport.
It feels to me that Veah and Rory are like a new version of Tim Malcolm And Veronica Rodriguez. These last duos co-parenting and best friends dynamic made it difficult for them to succeed in their relationships. Sunny will have to put up with Rory being around and, apparently, Veah keeping him in the dark if she thinks they’re up to something he might not approve of. It’s an objectively terrible way to establish trust in the friendship and, in general, why I hate this storyline with a passion.
90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days airs Sundays on TLC at 8pm ET. Maybe the back half of this couple’s storyline can turn my current perspective on it, but I’m not optimistic.
