Netflix has a ton of original 90-minute movies in the top 10, and I have to talk about why that’s great news

Netflix’s 2024 Releases are broad when it comes to genres and topics, but in this week’s Top Ten, a number of films have something in common: they’re all about 90 minutes long. If there’s one thing I love, it’s a 90-minute movie, and I’m here for Netflix to make some of them.

Okay, let’s break this down. On Netflix’s Global Top 10 Movies for the week of October 28 through November 3, five of the films featured are Netflix originals that run approximately 90 minutes. Those projects are as follows:

  • Don’t move is No. 1 and it is 1 o’clock. 32 minutes.
  • Time saving is No. 2 and it is 1 o’clock. 32 minutes.
  • Hijacking ’93 is No. 3 and it is 1 o’clock. 27 minutes.
  • Woman of the Hour is No. 5 and it is 1 o’clock. 36 minutes.
  • Lonely planet is No. 9 and it is 1 o’clock. 36 minutes.

Remarkably, Lonely planet has been in the Top 10 for four weeks, Woman of the Hour there is already three, Don’t move And Hijacking ’93 have two weeks under their belt and Time saving is one week.

I would also like to point out that all of these films are also vastly different. Don’t film is a thriller starring Kelsey Asbille And Woman of the Hour is a terrifying one true crime movie directed by Anna Kendrick. In the meantime, Hijacking ’93 is about a drama about a real hostage negotiation in the air Time saving is a fantastic YA time travel movie set in the early 2000s. To really drive this point home, Lonely planet is a romance starring Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth.

Chances are: all of this loved Netflix movies attract very different audiences. However, there is something to be said about the fact that they are all within the range of a solid 90-minute film.

In recent years, when it was announced that a running time is three hours or moreI have a feeling moviegoers are letting out a collective sigh as they brace themselves for the long haul. Personally, I had this reaction to it Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 (3 hours 1 min.), Killers of the Flower Moon (3 hours 26 mins) and Avatar: The Way of Water (3 hours 12 minutes) from recent years. And I’d be lying if I said runtime didn’t play a role in why I didn’t like these movies. When I watch a movie, I’m not looking for a miniseries, I want something that isn’t time consuming, and that’s part of the reason why hour and a half movies are prevalent.

Moreover, there is something to be said about the value of concise stories. If you can make a film with very little fluff that moves smoothly and tells a meaningful story in 90 minutes, then you have something special. I mean, some of the best films are 90 minutes long. By Aeroplane! Unpleasant Toy story Unpleasant When Harry met Sally…there are countless examples of masterful shorter films.

In addition to the aforementioned Netflix originals that are currently popular, there are quite a few other films of around an hour and a half that have also made the top ten in recent months. By The secret life of pets Unpleasant Venom: Let there be carnage Unpleasant Kung Fu Panda 4It’s clear that viewers – whether consciously or not – are fans of shorter films.

I can’t blame them either. After a long day of work or being outside, it’s always nice to unwind with a movie. However, often there is no point in committing to a long film. And honestly, it can be hard to pay attention for that long, especially if I haven’t braced myself for something that lasts more than two hours. So I always check the runtime to find something short and sweet to fill the small amount of free time I have.

Of course, I can join in with any film of any length if it’s good. Overall though, 90 minutes is perfect, and I thank Netflix for releasing quite a few of those in the past month! Let’s hope they keep this up and make it a trend.

To watch Don’t move, Time saving, Hijacking ’93, Woman of the Hour And Lonely planetall you need is one Netflix subscription and approximately 90 minutes of free time.
