Indian pacer Mohammed Shami is all set to make a comeback after his lengthy injury layoff. Shami, who has been out due to an ankle injury since last year’s ODI World Cup final, is set to make a comeback in Bengal’s Ranji Trophy against Madhya Pradesh.
The ODI World Cup’s leading wicket-taker had to take a break shortly after the quadrennial tournament due to ankle surgery. Shami was expected to make a comeback before the New Zealand Test series but the timeline was postponed when his knee injury flared up during his rehabilitation process.
“Shami’s inclusion in the Bangladesh team will not only be a big boost but will also boost the morale of the entire team as it aims to reach the next round of the Ranji Trophy,” the Cricket Association of Bengal said in a press release.
Bengal are currently at the fifth spot in the points table with 8 points from 4 matches. Bengal gained 3 crucial points from their last match against Karnataka. The team will take on Madhya Pradesh in the fifth round of the tournament from Wednesday, November 13.
Shami had talked about his recovery back in October. The pacer stressed that he was pain-free and looking to return to full bowling.
“I’m very happy with how I bowled yesterday. Before that I was bowling from the half run-up because I didn’t want to be in too much trouble. But yesterday I decided to go at full strength, and I bowled at 100 percent.” the 34-year-old told reporters during the Bengaluru Test match against New Zealand.
“The result was good. I am 100 percent pain-free. Everyone has been wondering for a long time whether I will make it to the Australian series, but it will take some time,” he said, referring to the five-match event scheduled for November 22 in Perth begins.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma had addressed concerns over Shami’s injury and revealed that the pacer was still having problems with his knee. Shami had dismissed media reports of the same just before the New Zealand series when he was not named in the Indian squad against the Kiwis.
