Chief Advisor Professor Yunus has ordered an inquiry into eminent editor Nurul Kabir, alleging that he was recently harassed at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

In a statement today (Nov 23), the CA press office said: “We sincerely regret the incident.”

The interim government will not tolerate harassment of journalists in the country, the report said.

“During his long career, Nurul Kabir has been one of our most respected editors, a leading voice of reason and a champion of journalistic integrity,” the statement said.

The editor of New Age today claimed that he faced harassment twice this week at the city’s airport while flying to and from Colombo to attend a press conference.

He went to Colombo on November 18 to attend the Asia Media Forum and returned yesterday.

In a post on his verified Facebook, Kabir wrote: “The country’s immigration authorities have been harassing me at Dhaka airport for over two decades every time I go abroad.”

He claimed he would be interrogated and have his passport confiscated, among other incidents while he occasionally left the country.

“This time, on November 18, when I went abroad for a media conference, I expected my days of harassment at Dhaka airport to be over, at least for some time. I was wrong,” he said.

“This time it has doubled considerably. An hour when leaving and an hour when returning on November 22.”

“Being patriotic is a matter of being suspected by the country’s intelligence services. “I am forced to question, if at all, the patriotism of the country’s intelligence agencies involved and those in the government(s) that oversee them,” he added.
